The Substack i didn’t realize I needed till I started reading it!!! So many influencers peddling the same thing saying how much they LURVE it but I want a real honest nitty gritty breakdown given the price of some of these items. Thanks for doing the leg work!!!
I have the Donni ones (no comparison, totally different pant in my opinion) but otherwise no, I just went for it. I appreciate this community service you’re doing, though!
I love this post! I did a did a similar newsletter a couple of months ago but didn’t buy/try them all so this is so helpful!! Excited for part 2. Also love the name of your Substack!
Love this series!! I love the look of these pants but as someone who works from home, I have a need for more loungewear fabrics. I really like the "lululemon Align™ High-Rise Mini-Flared Pant Extra Short". I'm also 5'2" and the extra short hit at a perfect length!
First of all- you are hilarious and so down to earth. Immediate subscribe. Love seeing these on a real person. Would you add the Everlane Dream Pant to your analysis? As a fellow sale stalker these show up on Poshmark all the time- not sure if that’s a good or bad sign! 😅
Loving this post and thanks for the trying on and details! I have and love the Faye’s in knit ponte (also was disappointed in the wool and returned) and have and love the Donni which I consider more of a sweatpant/atheleisure but not workout pair. Agree the Everlane with side zipper isn’t the same (side zipper did not lay flat on me so was an immediate return.) have you seen/tried the Apiece Apart pair? That is the other kick flare pant I’ve heard reco’ed (but as a petite 5ft 2inch I’m skipping) https://www.apieceapart.com/products/rene-pull-pant?id=dbf2ebfc-af9b-4399-9034-257ee56d415c
thank you thank you for your input - interesting we had such similar experiences! Maybe I'll hold off on trying the Everlane then. Seen way too many complaints about the zipper. And the APiece Apart are en route. 🫡
I got the gap and the old navy and I can’t decide!! The gap feel better and are the correct length/flare but they have a zipper and a button that’s not the most comfortable. The old navy are pull-on, which I wanted, but so high waisted I can’t figure out how to cutely tuck in a top.
New subscriber here too. I have the Everlane and Ann Mashburn versions and they are good, but... I am slightly shorter than you (5'0") and I haven't hemmed either pair - I feel like they would make me look shorter if they hit at the ankle? So maybe I am doing it wrong? Right now they are full-length on me, and I wear them to work with boots, but I can't say I love either pair enough to want to wear them on the weekends. Maybe when it gets warmer, with sandals? Looking forward to Part II though!
Oh I'm glad to know you have two versions that you like! Honestly, maybe the pants will have more longevity if you keep them long? The shorter pant is very much a trend and I'll admit with the ankles exposed - at times I've been worried I look like a member of the lollipop guild. But yes, I think they look best with sandals or a less bulky shoe. Thanks for reading!
this was so great; ty for doing the work!! i have the BR pair and the less flared shape works best on my short legs. no idea if they will wash well or hold up down the line…
ty for sharing your experience, love to hear it. and ty for reading! i think a less dramatic flare is what works for my shorter legs, too. fingers crossed these pants hold up.
Thank you for doing this! I have the High Sport in my cart but based on your review I don’t think they are what I want. I just sent back the Apiece Apart pull on Rene in chocolate. They seemed more flared than some of the others which I liked. The fabric was thick but not “suck you in” uncomfortable. I’m the same size as you and got a M, probably could have also done a S. What I didn’t like was how they arrived folded off-seam which left crease marks that didn’t recover after I put them on. There were lighter colored “stripes” up the back. I was nervous to steam them given the fabric. I have the BR ones which are totally different in my opinion. Your review of them is spot on. They are a traditional ponte fabric. I’ve worn them twice and think eventually the waistband will stretch out and they will pill. Looking forward to you Part 2, especially your thoughts on JCrew and Donni!
Your input is so valuable, thank you for sending it along! I actually have the Apiece Apart on their way to me now so I'm interested to see if they folded them correctly 🤦🏻♀️ I know what you mean about the BR pants potentially pillig, fingers crossed. Cant wait to share Part 2 with you, Julia, thanks for reading!

Yes, Nicole! So glad you enjoyed it. I will keep on working these little legs for ya!
Old Navy was my rec and I can’t WAIT to hear what you think!!!
I like them too! Even better than the Gap version! I haven’t worn them out yet, so hoping they keep their shape.
I have them and honestly, they’re amazing.
They really are. I’m going to try a couple of their other fits in the same fabric, I think?? TBD if they’re as good.
I just bought them and…I love them? I am shocked!
Right??? Old Navy, who knew?!
I cannot WAIT to try them on! Did you try any others or do you happen to be a mentally stable person that just went with one pant?
I have the Donni ones (no comparison, totally different pant in my opinion) but otherwise no, I just went for it. I appreciate this community service you’re doing, though!

Oh! One more thought- the ever important POCKET factor… This one element will sway my opinion every time…
Okay okay you sweet talked me into it 😊 ...Everlanes are coming. The elusive pocket! It will always sway me...we shall see next week!

I have the Old Navy ones, and love them. Very comfy and hold up well.

My new favorite (and useful!!) substack. :) Thank you for being real.
Thank you for reading, Mindy! Appreciate you!
