Thanks for sharing this fantastic intel with us! I’ve come across a few memes of people whove also bought doll size furniture, so you’re not alone! For the main sites, sometimes I find looking at the 3/5 star reviews helpful. They’re likely not paid or receiving free product otherwise they would review higher, but they’re also likely not hate bashing the product for no good reason. YMMV, but just another suggestion!
This is brilliant! I have been doing similar, mostly with beauty products and electronics, with Reddit. Sometimes I still see some suspicious reviews, but usually there is enough of a community aspect that someone else is there to challenge the opinion.
This is so very smart! The idealist in me wants this scaled to include even more brands, etc. there is something VERY special about real reviews esp when you can filter by body type.
Also, I LAUGHED when you talked about how online shopping used to feel reckless. I remember when online shopping began and the idea of typing a CC number into a website felt akin to identity theft!
Reminder that if you’re looking for honest reviews. Thingtesting is a third party with objective, trustworthy reviews that can’t be modified or deleted or hidden by brands! I used to work there, so I’m biased, but also I can confirm that trust is truly their number one priority above all else.
Another thing I learned working there is just how prevalent it is to modify and syndicate reviews from one platform to another, particularly a department store or big retailer or Sephora, who require a certain amount of reviews to launch. This means brands have to do a bunch of sampling in exchange for reviews before they even drop a product for consumers, which is why a lot of times reviews have that funky pay to play flavor.
I have been catalog shopping since 1978, so long before the internet that not only were the other folks commenting on this thread not even born, their PARENTS probably weren't even born yet. YOur ideas about checking reviews are news to me, and I LOVE them. I kind of rely on buying clothes et al whose brand I'm familiar with, and especially relying on Thredup.com's measurements. Thanks so much for teaching this old cat new tricks, and I look forward to checking this out!
Sorry, I CANNOT with the shoe on the sink! Leandra Medine used to do that are got called out so often that I think she stopped. I get you want to show off your shoe for the total look, but yuck.
But your hard work in helping us navigate reviews is great!
This is brilliant. I totally value the reviews on RTR (and agree with you that everything is over starched and the good stuff is never available), BUT I never connected the dots to use the info when making purchases elsewhere.
I shop a lot on ThredUp, and their pictures and product details leave much to be desired. I spend a lot of time googling possible purchases, but I never thought to check for reviews on rental sites. Will be doing this from now on!
This is awesome!! I’ve been so discouraged by the trial and error you have to go through shopping online that I’ve been back at only shopping in person, so I can touch, try on things and figure out my size on the spot
Such good insight!!! I am feeling totally exhausted by online shopping right now! I love to browse and search but it’s overwhelming, and I can online imagine how overwhelming it feels for people who don’t like the hunt. I miss shopping in person, but it’s also not so accessible to me right now - for a variety of factors including where I live, having less time, especially on the weekends, etc. such a tricky balance!!!!

RTR reviews are the GOAT of all reviews.

I’m screaming at the Eames chair 😂 but the women who leave detailed reviews & pictures deserve an award!

This! Is! Brilliant!!!
I never tire of your high sport commentary ❣️
This is new to me and I love the tip!! I like free people because people often show photos.
As someone who is 6’2, I think I need to check out those Nanushka orange pants! Finally a pair of pants that might actually fit me for once 😆
This. Is. Brilliant!
