I saw someone (maybe Grace Atwood?) mention recently that simple black/white silhouettes with denim isn’t style it’s just the glorification of skinny. That’s what I see with CBK. Her style wasn’t ground breaking or unique, she was just the embodiment of feminine beauty standards. Skinny and blonde.

My best NYC pal & I used to lurk around Tribeca for a glimpse of John. I had every issue of George. I lived through & followed every second of their lives & remember what I was wearing that sad summer afternoon. I came to Love Story with the most skeptical of eyes. I am loving it.

I haven’t watched Love Story and I have no idea if it romanticizes JFK Jr (I know it’s more about CBK) but everyone needs to read Ask Not by Maureen Callahan and then decide if they wanna act like any of these men are even remotely decent human beings. Spoiler: they’re not.

the "CBK style is no big deal she was just skinny it wouldn't look the same on someone else" discourse is missing the point

which is that her clothes were chosen (by her! no stylist) to highlight HER looks and HER features, not mine or yours or a man's etc. The pieces themselves are secondary to the woman in them, hers is a textbook example of personal style because it was personal to her specifically, it doesn't become less so because it wouldn't look the same on me (half a foot shorter with darker hair and skin), she is not a ghost stylist to everyone who tries to copy her.

We would be better served by following the same principles she did when it came to choosing clothes (not "wear beige and black", which no thank you, but "choose quality pieces that fit your life and wear them constantly" and "your hair/makeup/grooming are important parts of a look too")

100% agree. I'm old and was in my early 20s when they got together. The styles at that time were minimal. Grunge was fading off and this was the beginning of a more minimalistic style (or my memory tells me that it was).

Due to her upbringing and access to wealth, plus her career working for Calvin Klein she literally had access to the newest designs. The Prada/Yoshi level she wore would not be readily achievable by a commoner such as myself. Fast fashion wasn't as fast and I felt like she was on the new edge, because she literally was.

Yes she was thin and blond but many women in NYC are.

I was a fan, I thought her style was smooth, sleek, new but in a classic way.

I can understand that those currently in their 20s don't understand the appeal. That's ok too. I'm not out "trying to get her look" but for me its fun to see mostly due to nostalgia. Not necessarily nostalgia for her/the Kennedy's but nostalgia for my life at the time of their popularity.

CBK is the new high sport pant 🤪 i loved her style then and now but at the same time, i don’t have any interest in the show. feels like she would have really disliked our fixation on her and her style.

TR, i’m here for any product reviews!

Love Story is 90s nostalgia for me. The music, the clothes, the juggernaut Calvin Klein was, the whole vibe! I think you’ll enjoy the time capsule of it.

Wow girls are late to CBK obsession! Glad I got through that phase in my 20s. I do think her style was fantastic but I don’t think it’s as easily emulated as a bunch of thrifted 90s clothes.
