Yesterday there was a New York Magazine article listing the salaries of various people living in New York: wedding photographers, swim instructors, baristas, venture capitalists.
One entry that caught people’s attention was a fashion newsletter writer who reported making around $275,000 a year.
People had a lot of reactions. Some were annoyed. Many were impressed. What struck me most was how confused everyone seemed to be.
How exactly does someone make that much money writing a newsletter?
As someone who spent years working in affiliate marketing and performance media, I can tell you the answer is not particularly mysterious.
